Clean the propeller shaft (except universal joints) thoroughly with a steam cleaner or cleaning solvent before inspection.
Propeller shaft inspection
- 1Measure the propeller shaft runout with a dial indicator. Replace the propeller shaft if runout is excessive.Maximum runout: 0.4mm (0.016 in)
05U0LX-008 - 2Move the universal joints in the directions shown, and check for universal joint looseness. If there is looseness, replace the propeller shaft.
97U0LX-008 - 3Check operation of the universal joint. If the universal joint has excessive resistance, replace the propeller shaft.

- 1Align the marks, and install the propeller shaft.Tightening torque: 27—30 N·m (2.8—3.1 m-kg, 20—22 ft-lb)
05U0LX-009 - 2Check that there is no abnormal noise or vibration when driving the vehicle. If noise or vibration occurs from the propeller shaft, replace the propeller shaft.
