INSPECTION

Fan Motor Inspection

    Check that the battery is fully charged.
  2. 2
    Disconnect the fan motor connector.
    Engine bay view with an arrow pointing to the fan motor connector location for disconnection.

    Connect the battery and an ammeter to the fan motor connector.

    Verify that current is as specified.
  5. 5
    If current is not within specification and/or the fan does not turn smoothly, replace the fan motor.

REPLACEMENT

Fan Motor Replacement

  1. 1
    Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. 2
    Drain the engine coolant.
  3. 3
    Remove in the order shown in the figure.
    Exploded view of the cooling fan / radiator cowling assembly. Numbered callouts: 1 cooling fan connector, 2 cooling fan, 3 radiator cowling, 4 fan motor. Tightening torques shown: 7.8-11 N-m (80-110 cm-kg, 69-95 in-lb) on the fan motor mount bolts, 3.9-4.9 N-m (40-50 cm-kg, 35-43 in-lb) on the upper cowling bolt, 1.0-2.0 N-m (10-20 cm-kg, 8.7-17 in-lb) on the fan blade nut.

    Install in the reverse order of removal.
