    Inspect the driveshaft, referring to Inspection.

    Remove in the order shown in the figure, referring to Removal Note.

Tightening torques labeled on the figure: 88—118 N·m (9—12 m-kg, 65—87 ft-lb) at the rear wheel; 46—67 N·m (4.7—6.8 m-kg, 34—49 ft-lb) at an intermediate fastener; 54—64 N·m (5.5—6.5 m-kg, 40—47 ft-lb) at the inner driveshaft end; 216—294 N·m (22—30 m-kg, 159—217 ft-lb) at the locknut.

    Install in the reverse order of removal, referring to Installation Note.

    After installation, adjust the rear wheel alignment. (Refer to Section R.)

Driveshaft inspection

    Check the dust boot on the driveshaft for cracks, damage, leaking grease, and a loose boot band.

    Check the driveshaft for bending, cracks, and wear of joints or splines.
  3. 3
    Repair or replace the driveshaft if necessary.
