Lower arm ball joint - Removal note

  1. 1
    Separate the ball joint from the knuckle with the SST.
    SST 49 0727 575 (Puller, socket joint) installed to separate the lower arm ball joint from the knuckle.

Ball joint dust boot

Ball joint dust boot - Removal note

    Remove the dust boot with a chisel.
    Do not damage the ball joint stud.
    Chisel being used to remove the ball joint dust boot. Hand holding chisel against the boot/ball joint.

    Liberally coat the inside of the new dust boot with grease.
  2. 2
    Press the dust boot onto the ball joint with the SST.
    SST 49 H028 301 (Installer, dust boot) pressing a new dust boot onto the ball joint stud.

Inspection

Lower arm ball joint

Ball joint rotation torque

  1. 1
    Shake the ball joint stud 5 times.
  2. 2
    Connect the SST to the ball stud, and measure the rotation torque with a pull scale.
    SST 49 0180 510B (Attachment) connected to the lower arm ball joint stud for rotation-torque measurement.
