Removal / Installation

    Jack up the front of the vehicle and support it with safety stands.
  2. 2
    Remove in the order shown in the figure, referring to Removal Note.
    Exploded view of rear suspension shock absorber and spring assembly. Shows numbered callouts: (1) Filler pipe protector (left side), (2) Wheel and tire, (3) Stabilizer control link bolt, (4) Shock absorber and spring. Torque specs in N-m (m-kg, ft-lb) shown at fastener locations: 23-29 (2.3-3.0, 17-22), 36-54 (3.7-5.5, 27-40), 63-93 (6.4-9.5, 46-69), 88-118 (9.0-12.0, 65-87).

    Inspect all parts and repair or replace as necessary.

    Install in the reverse order of removal.
  5. 5
    Tighten all nuts and bolts to the specified torques, referring to the figure.
    Loosely tighten the stabilizer control link bolt. Lower the vehicle and tighten all nuts and bolts to the specified torques with the vehicle unladed.

    Adjust the rear wheel alignment. (Refer to page R-9.)

Removal note - Shock absorber and spring

    Loosen the upper and lower arm bolts.
  2. 2
    Lower the upper and lower arms to remove the shock absorber and spring.
    Do not lower the arms excessively, which may damage the brake hose.
