BRAKE SYSTEM — PROPORTIONING BYPASS VALVE

P-16prose procedure

PROPORTIONING BYPASS VALVE

Inspection

  1. 1
Connect two pressure gauges [9,810 kPa (100 kg/cm², 1,422 psi)] to the pipes.
Photograph showing two pressure gauges connected via hoses/fittings to the brake system (master cylinder/proportioning valve area) for measuring fluid pressure during proportioning bypass valve inspection.

  2. 2
Measure the fluid pressure from the master cylinder and to the rear brake.
Graph plotting Rear brake pressure kPa (kg/cm², psi) on the vertical axis vs. Master cylinder pressure kPa (kg/cm², psi) on the horizontal axis. A line rises steeply, then bends at point A/A' and continues at shallower slope to point B/B'. Dashed lines mark A, B on the x-axis and A', B' on the y-axis, showing the proportioning curve.

Replacement

  1. 1
Remove in the order shown in the figure.
Exploded view of the proportioning bypass valve replacement. Shows the brake pipe (1), bolt (2), and proportioning bypass valve (3) attached at the master cylinder / power brake unit. Tightening torques labeled in N·m (m-kg, ft-lb). SST markers appear at the brake-pipe flare-nut fittings.

  2. 2
Install in the reverse order of removal.
  3. 3
After installation: (1) Add brake fluid and bleed the air. (Refer to page P-6.) (2) Check the brake lines for fluid leakage.
