Air Cleaner Element

Visually check the air cleaner element for excessive dirt, damage, or oil. Replace if necessary.

ADJUSTMENT

Preparation

  1. 1
    Check the condition of the engine (spark plugs, leaks in hoses, etc.).
  2. 2
    Make sure all accessories are OFF.
  3. 3
    Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
  4. 4
    Connect a timing light and tachometer to the diagnosis connector terminal IG−.
    Do not ground the power connector terminal (Blue: 1-pin); the wiper 20A fuse will be burned.
    When using an externally powered timing light and/or tachometer connect it to the power connector (Blue: 1-pin).

Ignition Timing

  1. 1
    Connect the SST and set the TEST SW to 'SELF TEST' or connect diagnosis connector terminals TEN and GND with a jumper wire.
    System Selector SST (49 B019 9A0) connected to the diagnosis connector with the TEST SW set to SELF TEST. Also shows the diagnosis connector pin layout with GND and TEN terminals.

    Check the idle speed, and set it to specification if necessary. (Refer to page F-76.)

    Verify that the timing mark (Yellow) on the crankshaft pulley and the timing belt cover are aligned.
