Disassembly Note

Camshaft pulley

  1. 1
    Hold the camshaft with a wrench.
    Camshaft pulleys with a wrench engaging one camshaft to hold it while the pulley lock bolt is loosened. A magnified inset shows wrench engagement on the camshaft flat.

    Remove the camshaft pulley lock bolt.

    Remove the camshaft pulley.

Camshaft

  1. 1
    Loosen the camshaft cap bolts in two or three steps in the order shown in the figure.

    Remove the camshaft caps.

    Remove the camshaft.
  4. 4
    Remove the camshaft oil seal from the camshaft.

HLA

  1. 1
    Remove the HLA from the cylinder head.
    Mark the HLA with a felt pen so that they can be reinstalled in the position from which they were removed.

Cylinder head bolt

  1. 1
    Loosen the cylinder head bolts in two or three steps in the order shown in the figure.

    Remove the cylinder head bolts.

Valve keeper

  1. 1
    Set the SST against the upper valve spring seat as shown in the figure.
    SST 49 0636 100A (arm, valve spring lifter) and SST 49 B012 006 (pivot, valve spring lifter) shown set against the upper valve spring seat to compress the valve spring for keeper removal.

    Remove the valve keepers.
