TIMING BELT

Timing belt inspection

    Replace the timing belt if there is any oil or grease on it.
    Timing belt handling DO-NOTs: top row shows belts being twisted or bent with X marks indicating forbidden actions; bottom shows the belt bent to 25 mm (1.0 in) minimum bend radius with X marks indicating tighter bends are not allowed.

    Check the timing belt for damage, wear, peeling, cracks, and hardening. Replace the timing belt if necessary.
    Damaged timing belts showing types of defects to check for: 'PEELING', 'CRACK' on left belt and 'DAMAGE, WEAR' on right belt section.

TENSIONER, IDLER

Tensioner and idler inspection

  1. 1
    Check the tensioner and idler for smooth rotation and abnormal noise. Replace the tensioner or idler if necessary.
    Hand holding the tensioner/idler pulley with an arrow indicating rotation to check for smooth turning.

TENSIONER SPRING

Tensioner spring inspection

  1. 1
    Measure the free length of the tensioner spring. Replace the tensioner spring if necessary.
    Tensioner spring (coil tension spring with hooked ends) laid horizontally with measurement arrow indicating the free length to be measured end-to-end.

Pulley inspection

  1. 1
    Inspect the pulley teeth for wear, deformation, and other damage. Replace the pulley if necessary.
    Camshaft pulley (large toothed pulley) and timing belt pulley (smaller toothed pulley) shown together for inspection of teeth wear and deformation.
