Valve Seal

Valve Seal Installation

    Assemble the SST so that depth L is as specified.
    SST valve seal installer assembly being prepared, showing SSTs 49 L012 001, 49 L012 002, and 49 L012 005 assembled to give a working depth L. A separate '11.5 mm (0.45 in)' callout shows a spacer/gauge dimension.

    Slide the valve seal onto the valve guide.
    SST 49 L012 005 set against the valve seal on the valve guide on top of the cylinder head, ready to drive the seal into place.

    Set the SST against the valve seal.

    Press the valve seal on until the SST contacts the cylinder head.
    Pressing the valve seal in with the SST until it contacts the cylinder head. SST parts 49 L012 001 (handle) and 49 L012 002 (body) are labeled.

    Install the lower spring seat.

    Install the valve.

    Install the valve spring and the upper spring seat.

    Compress the valve spring with the SST, and install the valve keepers.
    Valve spring compressor SSTs 49 0636 100A and 49 B012 006 in use on the cylinder head, compressing valve springs to install/remove valve keepers.

    Remove the SST.
  4. 6
    Tap the end of the valve stem lightly two or three times with a plastic hammer to verify that the keepers are all fully seated.
