Main bearing cap

    Before removing the main bearing caps, measure the crankshaft end play. (Refer to page B-64.)
    Measuring crankshaft end play with a screwdriver prying the crankshaft fore/aft (double-headed arrow above the screwdriver) and a dial indicator on the bottom of the block.

    Loosen the main bearing cap bolts in two or three steps in the order shown in the figure.

    Remove the main bearing caps.

Crankshaft

    Before removing the crankshaft, measure the main bearing oil clearances. (Refer to page B-63.)
