Camshaft

Camshaft Installation

  1. 1
    Apply clean engine oil to the camshaft journals and bearings.
    Cylinder head top view showing the intake and exhaust camshafts installed in position. 'CRANK ANGLE SENSOR DRIVE GROOVE' callout points to a groove on the rear of the intake camshaft.

    Install the camshaft in position.

    Apply silicone sealant to the shaded areas shown in the figure.
    Cylinder head with camshafts installed; arrows along the left side indicate the shaded areas where silicone sealant must be applied at the cam cap mating surfaces.

    Install the camshaft caps according to the cap number and arrow mark.
  3. 5
    Install the camshaft cap bolts, and tighten them in two or three steps in the order shown.

Camshaft Oil Seal Installation

  1. 6
    Apply a small amount of clean engine oil to the lip of a new camshaft oil seal.
    New camshaft oil seal being tapped into place with a suitable pipe and hammer on the front of the camshaft, with the oil seal seated against the camshaft cap.

    Push the oil seal slightly in by hand.

    Tap the oil seal in evenly with a suitable pipe and a hammer.

Camshaft Pulley

Camshaft Pulley Installation

  1. 1
    Turn the camshafts until the camshaft dowel pins face straight up.
    Camshaft pulleys with dowel pins facing straight up before installation. 'DOWEL PINS' callout points to the alignment pins.

    Install the camshaft pulleys with the I mark (intake side) or the E mark (exhaust side) straight up.
