Valve guide height

  1. 8
    Measure the height A of each valve guide. Replace the valve guide if necessary.
    Measuring valve guide protrusion height A from the cylinder head spring seat surface using a depth gauge / vernier caliper. Dimension A is indicated by a bracket between the valve guide top and the head surface.

    Remove the valve guide from the side opposite the combustion chamber with the SST.
    Removing the valve guide from the cylinder head (top, combustion-chamber side facing down) using SST 49 B012 005 driven through the guide from the spring-seat side.

Installation

Valve guide installation

  1. 1
    Assemble the SST so that depth L is as specified.
    Assembling SST set 49 L012 0A0 for valve guide installation: 49 L012 004 (Nut) at top, 49 L012 003 (Installer) attached, and 49 L012 002 (Body) at bottom. Inset shows the depth L dimension callout used to set installation depth.

    Tighten the locknut.
  3. 3
    Tap the valve guide in from the side opposite the combustion chamber until the SST contacts the cylinder head.
    Driving the valve guide into the cylinder head from the spring-seat side using the assembled SST (49 L012 003 + 49 L012 004 + 49 L012 002) with a hammer until the SST contacts the cylinder head.

    Verify that the valve guide height is within specification.
  5. 5
    If not within specification, repeat Steps 1—4.
